SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTION: The Mo Ibrahim Foundation aims to support good governance and great leadership in Africa.

The Mo Ibrahim Foundation (MIF) is an African foundation, established in 2006 with one focus: the critical importance of governance and leadership in Africa. It is their belief that governance and leadership lie at the heart of any tangible and shared improvement in the quality of life of African citizens

This one-year fellowship programme is available for young professionals, mid-career and new executives. It is a leadership fellowship which allows talented individuals to increase and enhance their professional capacity, with the intention of contributing to the governance and development of their countries thereby creating a pipeline of future African leaders

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Ibrahim Leadership Fellow will take leadership download...guidance from the President, the Chief Operating Officer and/or a designated Representative. Administratively, the Fellow will be assigned to the Bank’s Strategy Department (STRG). With this guidance, the Fellow will contribute to the design and implementation of strategic assignments that will increase and enhance their professional and leadership capacity, with the intention of contributing to the governance and development of their countries. The Fellow will also have the following responsibilities:

  • Advise on and develop strategic initiatives to advance the Bank’s mission and objectives
  • Plan, develop, and implement strategies for generating resources
  • Conceive, develop and promote innovations in Bank development policies
  • Review activity reports and financial statements to determine progress and status in attaining objectives and revise objectives and plans in accordance with current conditions
  • Undertake other duties as assigned

 

ELIGIBILITY: The Fellowship is for young professionals, mid-career and new executives. To apply for this position, you need to be national of one of AfDB member countries. The fellow must be;

  • National of an African country
  • 7-10 years of relevant work experience
  • Master’s degree holder

How to apply

  • Students wishing to apply for scholarships must complete the Scholarship Application Form and submit a résumé, along with two recommendation letters. Your résumé should clearly outline your experiences and achievements. This may include employment, volunteer work, gap year projects, awards, hobbies, skills and so on
  • They ask that one letter of recommendation be an academic reference, and one is a character reference. We will consider up to a maximum of four letters of recommendation. If students send more, it is at the discretion of the admissions committee which four will be considered. Letters must be submitted as PDF files, signed and written on official letterhead, or be sent directly from the person writing them. Letters that do not meet these criteria will not be considered
  • Students applying for the David Strangway Award for Excellence must also submit a maximum 300-word personal introduction to the Faculty Selection Committee. All documents must be submitted in a package together before the March 1 deadline
  • The Scholarship Review Committee will evaluate each student’s application for financial awards (scholarship and/or aid) only once. After an award package has been offered, no other financial awards applications will be accepted
  • Applicants must fill the Application Form

Scholarship description

The Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) is one of the largest and most prestigious scholarship schemes for international study in the world. Since it was established in 1959, around 34,000 individuals have benefited – 26,000 of them have held awards funded by the UK government, managed by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom (CSC). The CSC’s Secretariat is provided by the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), which is responsible for all matters concerning selection, academic studies, and evaluation

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must hold a first degree of at least upper second class (2:1) honours standard, or a second class degree and a relevant postgraduate qualification (usually a Master’s degree). Scholarships are awarded in all subject areas offered at UK universities, although the CSC’s selection criteria give priority to applications that demonstrate strong relevance to development

Applicants are also expected to be Commonwealth citizens, refugee, or British protected persons, be permanently resident in a developing Commonwealth country, be available to start their academic studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in September/October 2017 and by October 2017, hold a first degree of at least upper second class (2:1) honours standard, or a second class degree and a relevant postgraduate qualification (usually a Master’s degree)

Each scholarship provides the following:

  • Approved airfare from your home country to the UK and return at the end of your award (the CSC will not reimburse the cost of fares for dependants, nor usually the cost of journeys made before your award is finally confirmed)
  • Approved tuition and examination fees
  • Stipend (living allowance) at the rate of £1,043 per month, or £1,279 per month for those at universities in the London metropolitan area (rates quoted at 2016-2017 levels)
  • Thesis grant towards the cost of preparing a thesis or dissertation, (where applicable)
  • Warm clothing allowance, (where applicable)
  • Study travel grant towards the costs of study-related travel within the UK or overseas
  • For PhD Scholars, fieldwork grant towards the cost of fieldwork undertaken overseas (usually the cost of one economy class return airfare to your fieldwork location), where approved
  • For PhD Scholars, paid mid-term visit (airfare) to your home country (unless you have claimed (or intend to claim) spouse and/or child allowances during your scholarship, or have received a return airfare to your home country for fieldwork)
  • If your scholarship is at least 18 months long, the following family allowances:  Spouse allowance of £224 per month if you and your spouse are living together at the same address in the UK (unless your spouse is also in receipt of a scholarship; other conditions also apply)
  • Child allowance of £224 per month for the first child, and £110 per month for the second and third child under the age of 16, if you are accompanied by your spouse and children and they are living with you at the same address in the UK
  • If they are widowed, divorced, or a single parent (irrespective of the length of your scholarship), child allowance of £448 per month for the first child, and £110 per month for the second and third child under the age of 16, if you are accompanied by your children and they are living with you at the same address in the UK The CSC’s family allowances are intended to be only a contribution towards the cost of maintaining your family in the UK. The true costs are likely to be considerably higher, and you must be able to supplement these allowances in order to support any family members who come to the UK with you

How to apply

Applicants must make their application using the CSC’s Electronic Application System (EAS).

Applicants should apply to study at Master’s/PhD level at a UK university with which the CSC has a part funding agreement. Part funding agreements are at the discretion of individual universities. For a list of universities that have already agreed to part fund Commonwealth Scholarships. Applicants must apply to one of the following nominating bodies in the first instance – the CSC does not accept direct applications for these scholarships:

  • National nominating agencies – this is the main route of application
  • Selected universities/university bodies, which can nominate their own academic staff
  • Selected non-governmental organisations and charitable bodies

All applications must be made through your nominating body in your home country. Each nominating body is responsible for its own selection process. You must check with your nominating body for their specific advice and rules for applying, their own eligibility criteria, and their own closing date for applications. The CSC does not impose any age limit on applicants, but nominating bodies may do so in line with their own priorities.

Applicants must make an application using the CSC’s Electronic Application System (EAS), in addition to any other application form that you are required to complete by your nominating body.

Applicants must provide the following supporting documentation to be received by the CSC by 6 January 2017 in order for your application to be eligible for consideration;

  • References from at least two individuals

Chevening offers a unique opportunity for future leaders, influencers, and decision-makers from all over the world to develop professionally and academically, network extensively, experience UK culture, and build lasting positive relationships with the UK

To be eligible for these scholarships, an applicant must,

  • Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country
  • Be willing to return to their country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after their award has ended
  • Have an undergraduate degree that will enable you to gain entry to a postgraduate programme at a UK university. This is typically equivalent to an upper second-class 2:1 honours degree in the UK
  • Have at least two years’ work experience (this may be up to five years for fellowship programmes, please refer to your country page for further details)
  • Apply to three different eligible UK university courses and have received an unconditional offer from one of these choices by 13 July 2017
  • Meet the Chevening English language requirement by 13 July 2017

The programme provides full or part funding for full-time courses at postgraduate level, normally a one-year Master’s degree at any subject at any UK University

A full Chevening Scholarship normally comprises:

  • Payment of tuition fees (see point 1.2.a in relation to MBA fee caps)
  • Economy travel to and from your country of residence by an approved route for you only
  • An arrival allowance
  • The cost of an entry clearance (visa) application for you only
  • A departure allowance
  • A contribution of up to £75 for TB testing, where this is required
  • A travel top up allowance
  • A monthly personal living allowance (stipend) to cover accommodation and living expenses. The monthly stipend will depend on whether you are studying inside or outside London. These rates are subject to annual review. Stipend payments will be made to you on or around the 21st of the month for the following full month. Where you arrive in the UK or leave the UK part way through the month, the stipend for that month will be adjusted as appropriate.

Note: Changes to the value of a scholarship

  1. a) The value of your Scholarship will differ from the above in the following circumstances:
  • The embassy or high commission offers applicants a part award. This type of award will provide funding for tuition fees (no stipend or other allowance) OR stipend and allowances only (no tuition fees) only. In the case of part awards you will be expected to fund any difference
  • Applicants are offered an award to study an MBA. The Chevening contribution to the tuition fee is capped at £18,000. You will be expected to fund the difference. You may be required to demonstrate that you hold sufficient funding to cover the remaining tuition fee costs
  • Applicant’s Award is sponsored by a partner organisation. Any awards of this type offered may vary depending on the agreement reached with the co-sponsor
  • The FCO reserves the right to reduce a Chevening award or withdraw a Scholarship in instances where Scholars are beneficiaries of other significant awards, bursaries, prizes or earned income
  • All universities are expected to cover at least 20% of the cost of your tuition fees. In cases where a university is unable or refuses to provide such funding, the FCO reserves the right to withdraw the placement and send you to your next preferred choice. Alternatively, you may wish to cover the 20% amount yourself in which case we can continue with the placement at that university. Where this situation arises your programme officer will discuss the options with you

2. Funding additional to a Chevening Scholarship

  • Applicants must not accept any other form of publicly-funded award during your Scholarship and should not normally accept additional funding for purposes already covered by Chevening
  • Applicants must disclose on their application form whether they have applied, or intend to apply, for any other scholarships or awards
  • Where applicants are considering applying for or are offered additional funding after they have been selected, you must disclose this to your programme officer as soon as possible
  • Applicants may retain funding or other benefits not specifically covered by their Chevening Scholarship and may continue to be in receipt of a salary from your past employer during your Scholarship
  • The right is reserved to abate Chevening Scholarships in instances where you are a beneficiary of other significant awards, prizes or earned income
  • Applicants are not barred from taking part-time employment while in the UK but should not accept employment or internship opportunities unless agreed with the Secretariat
  • Applicants must comply with the employment conditions of their visa, university/college regulations, and the conditions of their award
  • Applicants should remember that their academic studies are of paramount importance and should be given due priority
  • In certain circumstances you may be given or seek an opportunity to undertake UK-based employment, or be in receipt of additional funding originating from either abroad or from within the UK during your Chevening Scholarship. In such cases the following rules will apply:
  • Extra income up to an including £3,000 over a 12 month period, will not be subject to a deduction
  • Extra income in excess of £3,000 and up to and including £7,000 will result in a £250 deduction in monthly stipend
  • Extra income in excess of £7,000 and up to and including £10,000 will result in a reduction to half stipend rate
  • Extra income in excess of £10,000 will NOT generally be allowed unless such funding is to cover a Scholar’s contribution where an award is subject to a fee cap or is a part award

The Education Exchanges Support Foundation (hereinafter – “the Foundation”) is a national agency entrusted with the administration of Erasmus+ and Lifelong Learning programmes and other initiatives funded by the European Commission (EC) and the Government of the Republic of Lithuania in the field of education and vocational training, which has been successfully operating since 2007. The foundation helps to disseminate the idea of lifelong learning and provide everyone with the opportunity to acquire international experience

The foundation provides modern educational and research environments that will enable students and researchers to face current challenges and to focus on knowledge as a principle driving force for development. Scholarships are awarded in all subjects

Eligibility

The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for these scholarships:

  • Candidate must be a national of one of the following countries: Republic of Belarus, Republic of Georgia, Republic of Moldova, Republic of Ukraine, Republic of Armenia, Republic of Azerbaijan, Republic of Kazakhstan, Republic of Uzbekistan and People’s Republic of China or a foreigner of Lithuanian origin (other than citizens of the European Union member states, and European Economic Area member states)

  • Candidate must have an official letter of acceptance for full-time Master degree studies from one of the Lithuanian higher education institutions

All approved candidates will receive a monthly scholarship of 380 Euros for the whole duration of the studies. The benefit to cover the study price will be offered only for the nationals from Republic of Belarus, Republic of Georgia, Republic of Moldova, Republic of Ukraine, and foreign citizens of the Lithuanian origin

How to apply

Applications must be submitted to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania in person no later than July 10, 2016, by mail (Egle.Fiseraite-at-smm.lt) or by the diplomatic representation of the Republic of Lithuania in a foreign country. The commission formed by the Minister of Education and Science (hereinafter referred to as the Commission) will examine the applications received no later than July 10, 2016

  • A copy of the document issued by a competent institution, certifying the minimum B2 level of study language command according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, or a copy of TOEFL IBT certificate (minimum assessment is 72 points), a copy of TOEFL Paper certificate (minimum assessment is 484 points), or a copy of IELTS certificate (minimum assessment is 5 points)
  • Documents certifying achievements in research (artistic) activities
  • Published research articles and their translations into Lithuanian, English or Russian
  • Certificates on speeches delivered at scientific conferences and their translations into Lithuanian, English or Russian
  • Artistic activity folder (if a foreigner will study in the field of art) in Lithuanian, English or Russian
  • Motivational letter in Lithuanian, English or Russian
  • Recommendation (recommendations) in Lithuanian, English or Russian
  • A copy of the confirmation issued by a Lithuanian higher education institution that the foreigner was admitted or is studying in the second-cycle full-time study programme, with an indication of the foreigner’s name, surname, study programme, which the foreigner studies, and state code, foreigner’s study period

2017 Iceland Government Scholarships for Foreign Students

Scholarship description

The aim of the Icelandic Government Scholarship is to enable and encourage academically able students.

The scholarship program is administrated by the Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies. Approximately 15 scholarships are available for the period from September 1st, 2017 to April 30th, 2018.

Scholarships are intended for students of modern Icelandic. Subjects covered include morphology, syntax, and phonetics of modern Icelandic. The students read both old and modern literature and learn about the history of Iceland from settlement to modern times. Additionally, students are introduced to translations

Eligibility

  • Students must have completed at least one year of University study
  • Students must also have prior knowledge of Icelandic according to the requirements for BA study in Icelandic as a second language (Icelandic knowledge on the level with the courses Icelandic Online 1 and 2)
  • Preference will, as a rule, be given to a candidate under 35 years of age
  • Applicants should have knowledge of English and Icelandic language
