Applications are invited for the 2016/2017 HKSAR Government Scholarships in Hong Kong for International Students. The Government of Hong Kong is offering scholarships for local and non-local students for the academic year 2016/2017

Scholarship description

These scholarships are available for pursuing full-time degree programmes at participating universities in Hong Kong.

With a view to attracting outstanding local students to advance their studies at home and meritorious non-local students to pursue higher education opportunities in Hong Kong, the HKSAR Government established in 2008 the $1 billion HKSAR Government Scholarship Fund (the Fund) to recognize outstanding local and non-local students

The aim of education for Hong Kong is to promote students’ whole-person development and life-long learning capabilities. Education helps to unleash human potentials and enhance people qualities and the competitiveness of the HKSAR. The scholarships are available for pursuing full-time publicly-funded programmes at degree or above levels at the following participating institutions:

  • City University of Hong Kong
  • Hong Kong Baptist University
  • Lingnan University
  • The Chinese University of Hong Kong
  • The Education University of Hong Kong
  • The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
  • The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
  • The University of Hong Kong
  • The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and
  • The Vocational Training Council

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following guidelines as follows:

Talent Development Scholarship (TDS): To be eligible for the TDS, students must:

  • Be currently pursuing full-time publicly-funded/UGC-funded undergraduate and postgraduate program
  • Achieve a minimum CGPA of 3.0 or equivalent, or
  • Have a recommendation from respective supervisor(s) (applicable for postgraduate research students); and
  • Receive an award in either inter-institution, local, regional or national event within recent three years (from January 1, 2012 – present) in one of the following areas with documentary proof: Sports and games; Music and performing arts; Culture, arts and design; or Innovation, science, and technology.

Reaching Out Award (ROA): To be eligible to apply for the ROA, students must:

  • Be currently pursuing full-time publicly-funded/UGC-funded undergraduate or postgraduate program
  • Achieve a minimum CGPA of 3.0 or equivalent, or
  • Have a recommendation from respective supervisor(s) (applicable for postgraduate research students); and
  • Participate in an outreaching activity that is conducted outside Hong Kong in the academic year 2016/17 with proof of admission/enrolment.

Endeavour Merit Award: EMA shall be made on the basis of merits to students with SEN who:

  • Are currently pursuing full-time publicly-funded/UGC-funded undergraduate or postgraduate program
  • Achieve a minimum CGPA of 2.5 or equivalent, or
  • Have a recommendation from respective supervisor(s) (applicable for postgraduate research students); and
  • Are able to provide documentary proof of SEN

Note: Local and international students can apply for the scholarships and would have to demonstrate that they have a good level of written and spoken English. Scholarships are provided to study all the subjects offered by the university

Value

  • The scholarship is $40,000 per year for local students and $80,000 per year for non-local students
  • In 2011, the Government injected $250 million into the Fund to extend the benefit to students of full-time publicly-funded sub-degree programs offered by five institutions ( the programmes City University of Hong Kong, the Education University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, HKAPA and the Vocational Training Council) from 2011/12 academic year onwards.  The scholarship award for these sub-degree students is between $20,000 to $30,000 per year for both local and non-local students

How to apply

Participating institutions will nominate students for the selection by the HKSAR Government Scholarship Fund Steering Committee. Interested students should apply for undergraduate study with participating higher education institutions

2016/2017 Government of Hong Kong Maritime and Logistics MSc Scholarship

Applications are invited for the 2016/2017 Government of Hong Kong Maritime and Logistics MSc Scholarship. The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region offers Hong Kong Maritime and Logistics Scholarship Scheme in PolyU for the 2016/17 academic year

Scholarship description

The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has set up the Hong Kong Maritime and Logistics Scholarship Scheme (Scholarship) in PolyU for the academic year 2016/17 to support students enrolled on the full-time stream* under PolyU’s MSc in International Shipping and Transport Logistics programme (MSc ISTL)

The Scholarship aims to expand the manpower of the maritime industry in Hong Kong. Scholarships are open for Local, Mainland China and overseas graduates wishing to enroll on the full-time stream under MScISTL programme offered by the Department of Logistics and Maritime Studies of PolyU, and having met the entrance requirements of the programme

Eligibility

Local, Mainland China and overseas graduates wishing to enroll on the full-time stream under MScISTL programme offered by the Department of Logistics and Maritime Studies (LMS) of PolyU, and having met the following entrance requirements of the programme are eligible for these scholarships:

Local Applicants :

  • A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline

Mainland China and Overseas Applicants :

  • A Bachelor’s degree in International Shipping or Maritime Studies or other relevant disciplines with:
  • English being the Medium of Instruction; or
  • ii) English not being the Medium of Instruction, then applicants are also required to meet either one of the following requirements: –
  • An IELTS Academic Test with a score of at least 6; or
  • A TOEFL Paper-based test score of at least 550, including a score of at least 4.5 in the Test of Written English; or
  • A TOEFL Internet-based test score of at least 80, including a score of at least 20 in the Test of Written English

Value

Scholarship will cover the tuition fee for the programme and an allowance

Applicants will be selected on the basis of:

  • Academic merit
  • Commitment to undertaking the full-time stream of the programme with 39 academic credits and 6 training credits of Maritime Industry Internship (exemption may be granted to local scholarship recipients with relevant internship/work experience)
  • Commitment to serving in the maritime industry in Hong Kong

Successful candidates will be notified in writing by LMS of the selection results on or before 30 June, 2016

2016/2017 MDes Scholarships for Graduates at Hong Kong Polytechnic University School of Design

Applications are invited for the 2016/2017 MDes Scholarships for Graduates at Hong Kong Polytechnic University School of Design. Applications are invited from only graduates of QS Top Design Schools (2016/17)

Scholarship description

Twenty scholarships, each worth up to HK$23,760, (equivalent to approx. US$3,065) are available for international applicants joining the PolyU Master of Design in September 2016. Eligible candidates are graduates of QS world’s top 50 universities for art & design. PolyU reserves the right to change or withdraw the scholarship at any time. In case of any dispute/ disagreement, PolyU’s decision is final

A maximum of 20 scholarships will be awarded. Scholarships are offered for the duration of 12 to 16 months in all specialisms under Master of Design, namely:

  • Master of Design (MDes) Design Practices
  • Master of Design (MDes) Design Strategies
  • Master of Design (MDes) Interaction Design
  • Master of Design (MDes) International Design and Business Management
  • Master of Design (MDes) Urban Environments Design

Eligibility

To be eligible for consideration for PolyU MDes’ Scholarships for Graduates of QS Top Design Schools (2016/17), you must:

  • Meet the entrance requirement for admission to the PolyU Master of Design programme
  • Submit a complete PolyU Master of Design application
  • Provide your academic transcript and graduation diploma awarded from an institution on QS world’s top 50 universities for art & design
  • Attend the admissions interview in person or via skype

Note: If you are successful, you will undertake specified duties as an MDes Ambassador, including providing assistance in related learning and teaching activities assigned by Specialism Leaders, representing the programme on recruitment events, providing testimonial on different media outlets, wherever appropriate

Value

Each scholarship will off-set 10% or 15% (for holder of a First Class bachelor’s degree) of tuition, regardless of which MDes programmes students are admitted to

PolyU MDes Scholarships for Graduates of QS Top Design Schools (2016/17) are awarded on the basis of academic merit. Students will be informed of the outcome of their application by email, normally two to four weeks after the interview
