The University of Groningen is offering free online course on Decision Making in a Complex and Uncertain World. This is a seven-week course which will be taught at undergraduate level. This course will teach you the first principles of complexity, uncertainty and how to make decisions in a complex world. The course will start on 5 September 2016

This is a 7-week course that requires a minimum effort of 5 hours per week. The course is taught in English at no cost. However, candidates who require a certificate will have to pay the amount specified by the course provider. The University of Groningen is a research university with a global outlook, deeply rooted in Groningen, in the north of the Netherlands.

About This Course

Leaders must be able to act in a complex world and under uncertainty. This course is a first step to develop yourself into one of the future’s key decision makers or to enhance your decision-making skills.

There are two levels of Fellowship within the program:

  • The Junior Fellowship Programme, for holders of at least a Technical Engineer degree (or equivalent) and at most an M.Sc. degree (or equivalent) with not more than 4 years of experience. Please note that the Junior Fellowship program is only open to nationals of CERN Member States
  • CERN Staff members are not eligible to apply for a Fellowship. Individuals who have held a VIA contract are not eligible to apply for a Fellowship

The sponsorship program for foreign students (Ausländerförderung) is aimed at international students and graduates who have acquired a university degree in their home country and who intend to complete postgraduate or master studies, doctoral studies or a research stay at a university in Germany

Eligibility

The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for this scholarship:
Applicants should

  • Be able to provide evidence of above average academic performance
  • Bring broad general education and distinct interest in political issues
  • Have a positive attitude towards democracy and human rights

Our scholarships consist not only of financial assistance but also include a program of ideational support. We expect our scholars to participate actively in this program throughout the eligibility period, including

  • The participation in at least four multi-day seminars of our annual agenda

The activities of these regional scholar groups offer a unique opportunity to enter into an interdisciplinary, political and personal exchange with other scholars, alumni and representatives of our foundation at the universities, the so-called “Vertrauensdozenten”.

Value

This Scholarship offers the following:

  • Duration and level of funding vary for different types of studies. Graduates (master or postgraduate students) receive a monthly scholarship of € 750. The standard funding period is two years
  • After having obtained unconditional admission to doctoral studies at a German university, PhD-students receive a monthly scholarship of € 920. The standard funding period for Ph.D. scholars is three years
  • We also fund research stays in Germany with duration of at least 6 months by the same amount (€ 920) under the condition that the applicant holds a university degree comparable to the German Master’s degree and provides evidence of at least two years of work experience in the academic field
  • Besides the monthly scholarship payments, they offer multiple subsidies for our scholars. On request, we subsidise health care insurance of up to the amount of € 120 per month
  • Also, we pay a family supplement provided that you and your spouse live together in one place in Germany for at least three months and that his/her income does not exceed the amount of € 450 per month. We grant a supplement of € 184 per month for children living with you in Germany. Prerequisites are the submission of an official German translation of the child’s birth certificate and the official rejection of your demand for public child allowance
  • PhD-scholars can apply for financial assistance for foreign research stays although we do not fund participation in congresses or symposia
  • Fees resulting from courses at the university in Germany that are directly related to your studies can be refunded up to the amount of € 500 per semester. In contrast, we do not refund regular semester fees resulting from matriculation or annual re-registration
  • Note: after finishing their studies in Germany, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung expects its former scholars to contribute actively to the development of their home country’s relations with the Federal Republic of Germany

Important information regarding the formal application requirements:

  • The minimum period in our scholarship program is one year and the remaining length of applicants studies or research in Germany has to be at least two semesters. They do not provide support for bachelor studies. Only students in master, postgraduate or doctoral studies are eligible for our scholarship program
  • Students in Medicine or Pharmacy can only apply after having completed their intermediate exam in Germany or when having achieved a comparable stage of their studies in another country. Human or dental medicine specialist training or postgraduate research stays in Germany cannot be supported
  • Persons having already achieved a doctorate are not eligible for a scholarship
  • There is an age limit of 30 years for all applicants
  • Our program of ideational support and the activities of the regional scholar groups are held in German. For this reason, a sufficient knowledge of the German language (level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) is obligatory for all scholars even if the courses of their planned studies are taught in English. In general, our scholars take and pass the DSH exam (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang – German Exam for College Admission) or the DaF-test (Deutsch als Fremdsprache – Test of German as a foreign language) with a high rating before the beginning of their university studies in Germany. In exceptional cases and for highly qualified applicants only, we financially support German language courses as preparation for studies in Germany
  • International applicants are eligible to apply for these scholarships

  • A second academic letter of recommendation: This second opinion should be written by the supervisor of your doctoral thesis, providing you already have one. It replaces the letter of recommendation concerning the applicant’s personality

2016 Tianjin University Scholarships in China for Non-Chinese Citizens

Applications are invited for the 2016 Tianjin University Scholarships in China for Non-Chinese Citizens. Tianjin University is delighted to offer scholarship for bachelor, master and doctoral degree programme in China. Non-Chinese citizens are eligible to apply for this scholarship programme

Scholarship description

Tianjin University is one of the designated Chinese institutions of higher education, authorized by the Ministry of Education of China and Tianjin Municipal Education Commission to recruit the foreign students under Tianjin Government Scholarship Program

The main objective of the university is to provide high quality, comprehensive educational and training opportunities that are compatible to changing needs of the students

Applicants can chose from the following programme:
Choice of specialty: program for bachelor’s degree program: Chinese language
English program for bachelor’s degree program: Chemical Engineering.
English programs for master’s degree program: Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Plan, Software Engineering,
Electronic Information Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Technology, and Civil Engineering.

Eligibility

The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for this Scholarship:

  • Non-Chinese citizenship with good health

Education and age requirements:

  • For Bachelor’s applicants: holding a high school certificate, under the age of 30
  • For Master’s applicants: holding a Bachelor degree, under the age of 35
  • For PhD applicants: holding a Master degree, under the age of 40

English language Requirements: Applicants from non-native English speakers who want to join in the English programs must submit the certificate of TOEFL (Score 80 or above), or IELTS (Score 6.0 or above)

How to apply

The applicants must fill in and submit the following application materials according to the facts:

  • Application Form for Foreigners Wishing to Study at Tianjin University and Application Form for Tianjin University International Student Scholarship (filled in Chinese or English by typing, with the photo on)
  • The notarized certificate of the highest diploma. If the applicant is employed, s/he should also provide proof of employment on application. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English (also original one and a copy)
  • Academic transcripts (notarized photocopy): Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English
  • A study or research plan. The applicants who apply for Master’s and PhD need to submit a study or research plan for the period studying in China, not less than 800 words in English or Chinese
  • Two recommendation letters: Applicants who apply for Master’s need to submit two recommendation letters in English or Chinese from two professors or associate professors
  • Applicants for art studies are requested to submit two sketches of the applicants’ own works
  • Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form (The original copy should be kept by the applicant. The form printed by Chinese quarantine authority could be downloaded from http://www.ietju.com/apply.asp). The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take medical examination due to the 6-months validity of the medical results
  • Photocopy of passport
  • Applicants who want to join in the Chinese programs must submit HSK certificate (a minimum requirement of HSK 4 (Score 180 or above) or HSK5 (Score 180 or above liberal arts) certificate)
  • Applicants for non-native English speakers who want to join in the English programs must submit the certificate of TOEFL (Score 80 or above), or IELTS (Score 6.0 or above)
  • Certificate of Non-criminal Records
  • The applicants need to mail all above application materials to: International Admissions Office, School of International Education, Tianjin University
  • Application materials will not be returned regardless of the result of application
