Eligibility

Candidates

  • Must meet all eligibility requirements at the time of contest closing either the 1st November 2016 (date to be confirmed separately for pre-selected students of the CSC)
  • Must have been preselected by a university, the Trans-Tech Network (for CCTT), the SRE or CONACYT on or before September 23, 2016
  • The stock market Québec-China must be pre-selected by the CSC at the latest March 31, 2017
  • Must not have already received a scholarship for foreign students Ministry of Education and Higher Education of Quebec (MEES), the Québec Research Fund – Nature and Technology or the Quebec Research Fund – society and Culture
  • Should not be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada
  • Must not have applied for permanent residence under the Canadian immigration laws
  • In addition to the conditions mentioned above, the candidate must take note of the restrictions and follow administrative prerequisites:

Restriction for study programs: Candidates for Québec-Wallonie scholarships must have previously studied in a French-speaking Belgian university at the time of receiving the award.

Criteria for the awardees doctoral research (V1, 1B, 1C, 1I, 1M, 1W) are:

  • Be holders of a certificate of acceptance (CAQ) issued by the Department of Immigration, Diversity and Inclusion and a study permit issued by the Canadian Consulate valid throughout the period studies in Quebec.

Holders of a postdoctoral fellowship (V2, 2B, 2C, 2I, 2M) and award of short-term research or professional development (V3, 3B, 3C, 3I, 3M, 3W) must:

  • Be holders of a work permit issued by the Canadian Consulate for the duration of stay in Quebec.

Value

  • Doctoral research scholarships (V1, 1B, 1C, 1I, 1M, 1W): $ 25,000 per year. The maximum duration of this scholarship is three years (nine sessions) with the possibility of extension up to 12 months (monthly allowance of $ 1,000)
  • Postdoctoral Fellowships (V2, 2B, 2C, 2I, 2M): $ 35,000 for one year, non-renewable
  • Scholarship Short-term research or professional development (V3, 3B, 3C, 3I, 3M, 3W): $ 3,000 per month for a period of four months

How to apply

Once shortlisted, the candidate is given a personal identification number (PIN) and a password. He must then fill out an electronic form which will be attached to the required documents on the website of the NRF . Only the e-form in the 2017/2018 competition and other documents required are accepted

2016/2017 Canadian Government Doctoral Research Fellowships for International Students

Fellowship description

This fellowship is funded from the Doctoral Research Fellowship Programme for Foreign Students (DE) of the Québec Research Fund – Nature and Technology (FRQNT). It aims to stimulate the interest of foreign students to undertake or pursue doctoral studies in Quebec and financially support the best foreign applicants wishing to carry out a doctorate in natural sciences, mathematical sciences and engineering

The scholarships are aimed at foreign students who had been pre-selected by a Québec university and who wish to carry out their doctoral studies in the Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Engineering fields. Scholarships are tenable for first nine sessions or 36 months

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following criteria to qualify for consideration:

  • Must meet all eligibility requirements for the competition closing date, which is 1stNovember,2015
  • Must have been pre-selected by a Québec university no later than23 September 2015
  • Must not have already received a scholarship for foreign students Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Research (MEESR) or Quebec granting agencies
  • Should not be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada
  • Must not have applied for permanent residence under the Canadian immigration laws

Value

The maximum annual value of the doctoral research scholarship for international students is $20 000. During the eligibility period (nine sessions or 36 months), the scholarship holder may receive up to nine payments totaling $60 000. Each payment of up to $6 667 covers a period of four months or one session

How to apply

  • Only students who have been pre-selected by a Québec university may apply to the competition
  • University representatives who pre-select applicants must fill out the applicant nomination form, which is available on the extranet site of the FRQNT
  • Pre-selected applicants will receive a Personal Identification Number (PIN) and a password and must then fill out an e-form to which will be attached the required documents
  • These forms must be filled out and submitted electronically by the competition deadline

Applications are evaluated according the following criteria:

  • Applicant’s academic record
  • Applicant’s research skills and relevant research experience
  • Quality and scientific interest of the project and socioeconomic scope of the project, if applicable
  • Social involvement, leadership and communication skills

The board of directors of the FRQNT will announce its decision electronically in late April, advising applicants directly via their e-files. Each applicant will be informed of his/her ranking and may print his/her announcement letter. It is strictly prohibited to contact committee members, who must abide by confidentiality rules. The decisions of the board of directors of the FRQNT are final and without appeal. There is no review process. The applicant must accept or refuse the scholarship in the ten (10) business days following the receipt of the offer by filling out the e-form in his/her scholarship holder’s file. Should an applicant fail to accept the award before the deadline, the Fonds will consider that he/she has refused it

2015 TWAS-UPM Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme in Malaysia

Fellowships are available for young scientists from developing countries (other than Malaysia) who wish to pursue postdoctoral research in natural sciences at the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in Malaysia. TWAS-UPM Postdoctoral Fellowships are tenable in the departments, institutions and laboratories of the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) for a minimum period of six (6) months to a maximum period of twelve months and are awarded to young scientists from developing countries (other than Malaysia) to enable them pursue advanced research in the natural sciences.

Fellowships are awarded in the field of natural sciences (Agricultural Sciences, Structural, Cell and Molecular Biology, Biological Systems and Organisms, Medical and Health Sciences incl. Neurosciences, Chemical Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Astronomy, Space and Earth Sciences, Mathematical Sciences and Physics) at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).

Eligibility

Applicants for these fellowships must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be nationals of a developing country (other than Malaysia)
  • Must nothold any visa for temporary or permanent residency in Malaysia or any developed country
  • Must hold a PhD degree in a field of the natural sciences
  • Apply for the fellowship within five years of having obtained a PhD degree in a field of the natural sciences
  • Must be regularly employed in a developing country (other than Malaysia) and hold a research assignment there
  • Must provide an official Acceptance Letter from a department, laboratory or institute at UPM (see sample Acceptance Letter in the application form)
  • Applicants must accompany their request for an Acceptance Letter with copy of their latest CV and a short write-up of research proposal (maximum 3 pages)
  • Must provide evidence of proficiency in English

2015 Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) Postgraduate Scholarships for South African and International Students

The Tshwane University of Technology is awarding full-time postgraduate scholarships for the 2015/2016 academic year. Applications are therefore invited from South African and International Students for these scholarships.

Scholarship description

The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) Master’s and Doctoral scholarships are available for unemployed postgraduate students for 2015 academic year. However, preference is given to all South African citizens. The scholarships are awarded to candidates pursuing their studies or researches in the following areas:

  • Social and human sciences
  • Economic and management sciences
  • Natural and applied sciences and
  • Engineering and technology
  • Any other discipline

Eligibility

  • These scholarships are available to unemployed full-time students only
  • There are open to South African and international students, but preference will be given to all South African citizens who qualify
  • TUT Scholarship will only be awarded in the first year of study (All students are expected to apply for external scholarships for the second, third or fourth year of their studies)
  • Students will only be considered for a second year of funding in exceptional cases and where evidence of rejection by the external funder has been presented
  • Students must have obtained a minimum average of 65% in their previous studies to qualify for a scholarship (in deserving cases, the FCRI may motivate for South African students who obtained an average of 60%-64% to receive scholarships)
  • Candidates must comply with in-house faculty criteria
  • This scholarship is not for a second Master’s or Doctoral degree
  • Not for students doing their third year of Master’s or fourth year of Doctoral studies
  • Students must be prepared to sign an agreement with the institution and adhere to the submission date of the full proposal and completion of degree
  • Students who receive government scholarships (e.g., NRF, MRC, Mandela-Rhodes, TUT-CSIR, etc.) only qualify for a top-up as stipulated in the agreement of the external funder. However, faculties may pay for their tuition as an incentive rewarding their efforts of securing external funding
  • Faculties and departments may top up non-governmental scholarships with FCRI or DCRI funding, but the amount should not exceed R200 000 per annum (top-up can range from R10 000 to maximum R20000 per student per annum)
  • Students may be appointed on a 12-hour basis as postgraduate teaching assistants (PGTAs), but only six hours may be contact tutoring or lecturing.

Value

The scholarships values are as follows:

  • Master’s degree: R50 000 per annum (tuition fees included) for one year only
  • Doctoral degree: R70 000 per annum (tuition fees excluded) for one year only (faculty will pay first year’s tuition fees)
