Eligibility Criteria

The Quest program is rigorous, and an important criterion for a scholarship award is the applicant’s academic record. Applicants whose native language is not English are required to submit the results of a TOEFL (Test of English as Foreign Language) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System) taken within the past two years.

Note: All students, regardless of their country of origin, are eligible to apply for scholarships and/or financial aid. All Quest Scholarships are considered entrance awards and cannot be applied for after the application deadline leading to your first year at Quest

How to apply

  • images.pngScholarship applications can be submitted at any time before the relevant deadline but will not be reviewed until the deadline. All application materials submitted for admission will be considered during the candidate’s scholarship award review
  • Students wishing to apply for scholarships must complete the Scholarship Application Form and submit a résumé, along with two recommendation letters. Your résumé should clearly outline your experiences and achievements. This may include employment, volunteer work, gap year projects, awards, hobbies, skills and so on
  • They ask that one letter of recommendation be an academic reference, and one is a character reference. We will consider up to a maximum of four letters of recommendation. If students send more, it is at the discretion of the admissions committee which four will be considered. Letters must be submitted as PDF files, signed and written on official letterhead, or be sent directly from the person writing them. Letters that do not meet these criteria will not be considered
  • Students applying for the David Strangway Award for Excellence must also submit a maximum 300-word personal introduction to the Faculty Selection Committee. All documents must be submitted in a package together before the March 1 deadline
  • The Scholarship Review Committee will evaluate each student’s application for financial awards (scholarship and/or aid) only once. After an award package has been offered, no other financial awards applications will be accepted
  • Applicants must fill the Application Form

Candidates

  • Must meet all eligibility requirements at the time of contest closing either the 1st November 2016 (date to be confirmed separately for pre-selected students of the CSC)
  • Must have been preselected by a university, the Trans-Tech Network (for CCTT), the SRE or CONACYT on or before September 23, 2016
  • The stock market Québec-China must be pre-selected by the CSC at the latest March 31, 2017
  • Must not have already received a scholarship for foreign students Ministry of Education and Higher Education of Quebec (MEES), the Québec Research Fund – Nature and Technology or the Quebec Research Fund – society and Culture
  • Should not be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada
  • Must not have applied for permanent residence under the Canadian immigration laws
  • In addition to the conditions mentioned above, the candidate must take note of the restrictions and follow administrative prerequisites:

Restriction for study programs: Candidates for Québec-Wallonie scholarships must have previously studied in a French-speaking Belgian university at the time of receiving the award.

Criteria for the awardees doctoral research (V1, 1B, 1C, 1I, 1M, 1W) are:

  • Be holders of a certificate of acceptance (CAQ) issued by the Department of Immigration, Diversity and Inclusion and a study permit issued by the Canadian Consulate valid throughout the period studies in Quebec.

Holders of a postdoctoral fellowship (V2, 2B, 2C, 2I, 2M) and award of short-term research or professional development (V3, 3B, 3C, 3I, 3M, 3W) must:

  • Be holders of a work permit issued by the Canadian Consulate for the duration of stay in Quebec.

  • Postdoctoral Fellowships (V2, 2B, 2C, 2I, 2M): $ 35,000 for one year, non-renewable
  • Scholarship Short-term research or professional development (V3, 3B, 3C, 3I, 3M, 3W): $ 3,000 per month for a period of four months

Eligibility

The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for this fellowship program:

  • You must have an MSc level diploma or above with no more than 10 years relevant experience
  • You are a national of a CERN Member State. However, a limited number of positions are also available to young scientists from the Non-Member States with a senior profile
  • You have graduated or are about to graduate with a university degree (BSc level or above) or a technical engineer qualification. NB: Applicants who are currently preparing a diploma are eligible to apply. However, they are expected to have obtained their qualification by the time they take up their appointment at CERN
  • Either, you have an MSc level diploma or above with no more than 10 years relevant experience or you have only a BSc or a technical engineer diploma with no more than 4 years relevant experience
  • If applying in experimental or theoretical physics fields, you have a Ph.D. or are about to finish your thesis
  • Non-Member State candidates seeking a postdoc in Theoretical Physics should apply for the Non-Member State Postdoc Fellowship Programme (Theoretical Physics)

There are two levels of Fellowship within the program:

  • The Senior Fellowship Programme addressed to people with a Ph.D. or at least four years of experience after the degree which gives access to doctoral programs. In both cases, a maximum of ten years of experience after the degree which gives access to doctoral programs applies
  • The Junior Fellowship Programme, for holders of at least a Technical Engineer degree (or equivalent) and at most an M.Sc. degree (or equivalent) with not more than 4 years of experience. Please note that the Junior Fellowship program is only open to nationals of CERN Member States
  • CERN Staff members are not eligible to apply for a Fellowship. Individuals who have held a VIA contract are not eligible to apply for a Fellowship
  • Please note that a person may only benefit from Fellow status at CERN for a maximum of 36 months. There is no possibility of exceptions
  • The minimum duration of a Fellow contract is 6 months
  • Applicants from all around the world are eligible to apply for this fellowship programme

Fellowship awards the following:

  • Stipend range: 5165 CHF to 8043 CHF per month (stipends are calculated individually, are competitive and net of tax)

Value

The duration of the Melbourne Research Scholarship is two years for students undertaking a Master by research degree and three years, with a possible six-month extension, for students undertaking a Doctorate by research degree. The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) is a political foundation, inspired by Christian democratic values, committed to fostering democracy and the rule of law, to implementing social and market-economic structures and to promoting human rights in Europe and worldwide

The sponsorship program for foreign students (Ausländerförderung) is aimed at international students and graduates who have acquired a university degree in their home country and who intend to complete postgraduate or master studies, doctoral studies or a research stay at a university in Germany

Eligibility

The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for this scholarship:
Applicants should

  • Be able to provide evidence of above average academic performance
  • Bring broad general education and distinct interest in political issues
  • Have a positive attitude towards democracy and human rights
  • Have been actively engaged in voluntary work for the benefit of the people and the society in their home countries
  • Be open to developing their personal points of view and practice tolerance towards those with different beliefs
  • Be highly motivated and be able to convince us with their own plans and potential

 

Our scholarships consist not only of financial assistance but also include a program of ideational support. We expect our scholars to participate actively in this program throughout the eligibility period, including

  • The participation in at least four multi-day seminars of our annual agenda
  • Regular attendance and active participation in the meetings of the regional scholar group at their university. The activities of these regional scholar groups offer a unique opportunity to enter into an interdisciplinary, political and personal exchange with other scholars, alumni and representatives of our foundation at the universities, the so-called “Vertrauensdozenten”.

Value

This Scholarship offers the following:

  • Duration and level of funding vary for different types of studies. Graduates (master or postgraduate students) receive a monthly scholarship of € 750. The standard funding period is two years
  • After having obtained unconditional admission to doctoral studies at a German university, PhD-students receive a monthly scholarship of € 920. The standard funding period for Ph.D. scholars is three years
  • We also fund research stays in Germany with duration of at least 6 months by the same amount (€ 920) under the condition that the applicant holds a university degree comparable to the German Master’s degree and provides evidence of at least two years of work experience in the academic field
  • Besides the monthly scholarship payments, they offer multiple subsidies for our scholars. On request, we subsidise health care insurance of up to the amount of € 120 per month
  • Also, we pay a family supplement provided that you and your spouse live together in one place in Germany for at least three months and that his/her income does not exceed the amount of € 450 per month. We grant a supplement of € 184 per month for children living with you in Germany. Prerequisites are the submission of an official German translation of the child’s birth certificate and the official rejection of your demand for public child allowance
  • PhD-scholars can apply for financial assistance for foreign research stays although we do not fund participation in congresses or symposia
  • Fees resulting from courses at the university in Germany that are directly related to your studies can be refunded up to the amount of € 500 per semester. In contrast, we do not refund regular semester fees resulting from matriculation or annual re-registration
  • Note: after finishing their studies in Germany, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung expects its former scholars to contribute actively to the development of their home country’s relations with the Federal Republic of Germany

Important information regarding the formal application requirements:

  • The minimum period in our scholarship program is one year and the remaining length of applicants studies or research in Germany has to be at least two semesters. They do not provide support for bachelor studies. Only students in master, postgraduate or doctoral studies are eligible for our scholarship program
  • Students in Medicine or Pharmacy can only apply after having completed their intermediate exam in Germany or when having achieved a comparable stage of their studies in another country. Human or dental medicine specialist training or postgraduate research stays in Germany cannot be supported
  • Persons having already achieved a doctorate are not eligible for a scholarship
  • There is an age limit of 30 years for all applicants
  • Our program of ideational support and the activities of the regional scholar groups are held in German. For this reason, a sufficient knowledge of the German language (level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) is obligatory for all scholars even if the courses of their planned studies are taught in English. In general, our scholars take and pass the DSH exam (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang – German Exam for College Admission) or the DaF-test (Deutsch als Fremdsprache – Test of German as a foreign language) with a high rating before the beginning of their university studies in Germany. In exceptional cases and for highly qualified applicants only, we financially support German language courses as preparation for studies in Germany
  • International applicants are eligible to apply for these scholarships

  • Copies of your examination certificates in German translation if the originals are not in English
  • Copies of your studies performance records if you have been studying at a University in Germany
  • Proof of German language skills
  • An informal academic letter of recommendation: This opinion should provide information about your academic qualifications and potential; it should not be older than two months. The author has to be a university professor or teacher holding a doctoral degree
  • An informal letter of recommendation concerning the applicant’s personality: This opinion should focus on your personality and interests as well as on your understanding of values and your social commitment. The author cannot be the same as that providing the academic letter of recommendation
  • Certificate of admission or matriculation from your university in Germany
  • Two passport photographs: If applying for a doctoral scholarship, please attach additionally
  • A detailed description of your doctoral thesis: This exposé, written in German or English (4-5 pages), should outline the central research question of your proposed project, its scientific relevance, your theoretical approach and the motives behind your choice of the research subject. It should also contain a work and time schedule and a bibliography
  • A second academic letter of recommendation: This second opinion should be written by the supervisor of your doctoral thesis, providing you already have one. It replaces the letter of recommendation concerning the applicant’s personality

  • The course is aimed at people preparing for IELTS Academic. If you are preparing for IELTS General Training, you will find that some of this course is useful for you, but not all. Of course, you are welcome to join. Speaking and Listening are the same in Academic and General Training, but Reading and Writing are different.

The invitation is made by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) for college scholarships available for international students to study at a Japanese college of technology

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) offers scholarships to international students who wish to study at Japanese universities as undergraduate students under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program for 2017

Japanese Government Scholarship aim is to foster human resources who will become bridges of friendship between your country and Japan through study in Japan and who will contribute to the development of both countries and the wider world. All classes will be given in the Japanese language

Scholarships are available to study at a Japanese college of technology. A graduated grantee will be awarded a diploma and an associate degree. Those who wish to study in Japan as students at a college of technology must choose a field from the following specialisation:

  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • Information, Communication and Network Engineering
  • Materials Engineering
  • Architecture
  • Civil Engineering
  • Maritime Engineering
  • Other Fields

Eligibility

  • Nationality: Applicants must have the nationality of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan. Applicants with no official nationality are also eligible to apply. An applicant who has Japanese nationality at the time of application is not eligible. However, persons with dual nationality who hold Japanese nationality and whose place of residence at the time of application is outside of Japan are eligible to apply as long as they choose the nationality of the foreign country and give up their Japanese nationality by the date of their arrival in Japan. Applicant screening will be conducted at the Japanese diplomatic mission in the country of applicant’s nationality
  • Age: Applicants generally must have been born on April 2, 1995, between April 1, 2000
  • Academic Background: Applicants, in principle, must have graduated from an upper secondary school (viz. have completed 11 years of school education starting from elementary school). Applicants who will meet the above qualifications by March 2017 are eligible.)
  • Japanese Language: Applicants must be willing to learn Japanese. Applicants must be interested in Japan and be willing to deepen their understanding of Japan after arriving in Japan. In addition, in general, applicants must be willing to receive college of technology education in Japanese
  • Health: Applicants must be free from any mental or physical disabilities that would impede the pursuit of study at Japanese schools
  • Arrival in Japan: In principle, the selected applicants must be able to leave for and arrive in Japan between the 1st and 7th of April 2017
  • Visa Requirement, Applicants must acquire College Student (ryugaku) visas before entering Japan. They then enter Japan with the College Student (ryugaku) residence status. Please also note that those who change their visa status to one other than College Student after arrival in Japan will lose their qualification to be Japanese Government Scholarship recipients from the date when their visa status changes
  • Others: While the applicant is studying in Japan, he/she shall contribute to mutual understanding between Japan and the home country by participating in activities at schools and communities with the aim of contributing to the internationalisation of Japan. The applicant shall make efforts to promote relations between the home country and Japan by maintaining close relations with the university attended after graduation, cooperating with the conducting of surveys and questionnaires after the return home, and cooperating with all relevant projects and events conducted by Japanese diplomatic missions in the applicant’s home country

  • Allowance: 117,000 yen per month. (In case that the recipient research in a designated region, 2,000 or 3,000 yen per month will be added. The monetary amount each year may be subject to change due to budgetary reasons.) The scholarship is cancelled in principle if the recipient is absent from the college of technology or preparatory Japanese-teaching institution for an extended period
  • Travelling costs:
    Transportation to Japan: The recipient will be provided, according to his/her itinerary and route as designated by MEXT, with an economy-class aeroplane ticket from the international airport nearest to his/her home country residence to the New Tokyo International Airport or any other international airport that the appointed university usually uses. Expenses such as inland transportation from his/her home address to the international airport, airport tax, airport usage fees, special taxes on travel, or inland transportation within Japan will not be covered
    Transportation from Japan: In principle, the recipient who returns to his/her home country within the fixed period after the expiration of his/her scholarship will be provided, upon application, with an economy-class airplane ticket for travel from the New Tokyo International Airport or any other international airport that the appointed university usually uses to the international airport nearest to his/her home address
  • Tuition and Other Fees: Fees for the entrance examination, matriculation, and tuition at universities will be paid by the Japanese government

  • Graduation certificate from the last school attended (or certificate of expected graduation for an applicant due to graduate)

A grantee that has completed the prescribed course at the preparatory school will go on to a college of technology designated by MEXT. The college of technology will be decided by MEXT upon consultation with the college concerned. No objection by the grantee against the decision will be allowed

MEXT ? offers scholarships to international students who wish to study at Japanese universities as undergraduate students under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program for 2017 as follows.

Those who wish to study in Japan as an undergraduate student must choose a field of study (major) from (1) or (2) below. Applicants may enter a first, second, and third choice:

  • Social Sciences and Humanities-A: Law, Politics, Pedagogy, Sociology, Literature, History, Japanese language, others
  • Social Sciences and Humanities-B: Economics, Business Administration
  • Note 1: Applicants who wish to major in fields other than those listed above (“others”) may have difficulties in finding universities that can accept them
  • Note 2: Any fields related to “Economics” and “Business Administration” in Humanities B are not included in “others.”
  • Natural Sciences Natural Sciences-A: Science (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry), Electric and Electronic Studies (Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Information Engineering), Mechanical Studies (Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture), Civil Engineering and Architecture (Civil Engineering, Architecture, Environmental Engineering), Chemical Studies (Applied Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, Textile Engineering), other fields (Metallurgical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Maritime Engineering, Biotechnology).   • Japanese Language: Applicants must be willing to learn Japanese. Applicants must be interested in Japan and be willing to deepen their understanding of Japan after arriving in Japan. In addition, in principle, applicants must be willing to carry out their academic studies in Japan in Japanese
  • Health: Applicants must be free from any mental or physical disabilities that would impede the pursuit of study at Japanese universities
  • Arrival in Japan: In principle, applicants must be able to arrive in Japan between the 1st and ?th of April 2017. If an applicant is to enroll in his/her university from the fall semester through direct placement, he or she must be able to leave for and arrive in Japan by the date specified by the accepting university

  • The scholarship will also be cancelled in principle in the following situations:
  • If the recipient has been receiving the scholarship despite his/her falling under any of the following situations, the recipient will be ordered to return the amount of scholarship that he/she received during the period wherein he/she was involved with any of the following situations
  • The recipient is determined to have made a false statement on his/her application
  • The recipient violates any article of his/her pledge to the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology
  • The recipient violates any Japanese laws and is sentenced to imprisonment with or without work for life or for a period of exceeding 1 year. However, this shall not apply to those who were found guilty with suspension of execution of sentences
  • The recipient is subject to disciplinary action by the university, including expulsion (The scholarship payment may be stopped during the period up until punishment is decided by the university, etc.)
  • It has been determined that it will be impossible for the recipient to complete the training course within the standard time period because of poor academic grades or suspension from the university
  • The recipient’s residence status has changed to one other than College Student as defined in the Appended Table I-4 of the Immigration Act
  • The recipient has received a scholarship from another institution (excluding those specified for research expenditures)
  • The recipient has proceeded to a higher level of education without receiving approval for an extension of the period of the scholarship
  • Travelling Costs: Transportation to Japan:
  • The recipient will be provided, according to his/her itinerary and route as designated by MEXT, with an economy-class airplane ticket from the international airport nearest to his/her home country residence * to the New Tokyo International Airport or any other international airport that the appointed university usually uses
  • Expenses such as inland transportation from his/her home address to the international airport, airport tax, airport usage fees, special taxes on travel, or inland transportation within Japan will NOT be covered. (*The address in the country of the recipient’s nationality stated in the application form is in principle regarded as the recipient’s “home country residence.”)

  • Note 1: If a grantee returns home without the granting of an extension even though he/she may have applied for an extension of the scholarship period, he/she will not, in principle, be reimbursed for the travel expenses to return to the home country
  • Note 2: Any aviation and accident insurance to and from Japan shall be paid for by the recipient
  • Note 3: If a grantee continues to stay in Japan after the scholarship period has ended, he/she will not be paid travel expenses to return to the home country for a temporary return
  • Tuition and Other Fees:
  • Fees for the entrance examination, matriculation, and tuition at universities will be paid by the Japanese government
