Eligibility

Applicants should meet the requirements below:

  • KAUST requires a minimum TOEFL score of 79 on the IBT (Internet Based Test) or 6.0 on the IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
  • The KAUST admissions code is 4107. Only official TOEFL or IELTS scores will be accepted
  • TOEFL or IELTS scores for tests administered by an educational institution for admission to that particular institution are not acceptable
  • A TOEFL or IELTS score is not required if the applicant received a degree from an accredited institution in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand

  • Statement of purpose
  • Curriculum vitae (CV)

There are two levels of Fellowship within the program:

  • The Senior Fellowship Programme addressed to people with a Ph.D. or at least four years of experience after the degree which gives access to doctoral programs. In both cases, a maximum of ten years of experience after the degree which gives access to doctoral programs applies
  • The Junior Fellowship Programme, for holders of at least a Technical Engineer degree (or equivalent) and at most an M.Sc. degree (or equivalent) with not more than 4 years of experience. Please note that the Junior Fellowship program is only open to nationals of CERN Member States
  • CERN Staff members are not eligible to apply for a Fellowship. Individuals who have held a VIA contract are not eligible to apply for a Fellowship
  • Please note that a person may only benefit from Fellow status at CERN for a maximum of 36 months. There is no possibility of exceptions
  • The minimum duration of a Fellow contract is 6 months

Fellowship awards the following:

2016 Austrian Academy of Sciences Doctoral Fellowship Programme

Applications are invited for the 2016 Austrian Academy of Sciences Doctoral Fellowship Programme. The new doctoral fellowship programme of the Austrian Academy of Sciences is an offer for the promotion of junior scientists

Fellowship description

The university provides modern educational and research environments that will enable students and researchers to face current challenges and to focus on knowledge as a principle driving force for development. The purpose of the fellowship is to enable young, excellent doctoral candidates from all disciplines and to carry out their dissertation project within a definable period of time

Eligibility

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible to apply for this fellowship:-

  • Must be enrolled in a PhD programme at an Austrian university
  • Must meet the requirements for enrolling in a PhD programme at the respective Austrian university
  • Must have received their degree (Diplom/Master) no longer than two years before the year of application
  • Exceptions will be made for applicants who interrupted their scientific work for child care (up to 3 years) or for persons providing proof of military or alternative national service. In these cases, applicants should contact the Office of Awards and Fellowships of the Austrian Academy of Sciences
  • Applicants who have completed their studies within the prescribed minimum length of study and passed their final examination with distinction are considered favourably in the review process
  • It is possible for fellowship recipients to spend up to 12 months at a research institution abroad.
    It is also possible for fellowship recipients to undertake their doctoral thesis within a cotutelle-de-thèse programme according to an agreement between an Austrian university and a university abroad
  • Applicants, who must be highly qualified, are required to submit a research proposal, a reference letter from their supervisor, and certificates ensuring that required facilities for the research project are available, as well as a short description of the chosen institutions of research
  • Applicants of all nationalities are eligible to apply for this fellowship

Value

Fellowship provides the following:

  • DOC fellowships amount to 37,000 euros annually before tax
  • A maximum of 500 euros annually may be requested for travel expenses (project-specific travel and accommodation, etc.)
  • A maximum of 1,900 euros annually may be paid for child care
  • Fellowships are paid in yearly instalments either directly to the recipient (“Neue Selbständige”) or to the university / research institution where the recipient is employed

Note the following:

  • Payment will not begin before the actual start of the fellowship
  • Fellowship recipients are permitted to undertake other paid work (e.g. teaching assignment, tutorial), if this activity promotes the achievement of the programme objective – the successful completion of the doctoral thesis – and does not take more than 10 hours per week
  • If the conditions of the fellowship are violated, the recipient is required to reimburse all or part of the fellowship

2016 UCAS Scholarship in China for International Students

Applications are invited for the 2016 UCAS Scholarship in China for International Students. The scholarships are available for sponsor young talents all over the world to pursue Master’s or Doctoral degree, attend courses or conduct research at UCAS campus/CAS institutes

Scholarship description

UCAS is a higher education institution established with the approval of the Ministry of Education, focusing on graduate education. UCAS has a highly qualified faculty team consisting of teachers and supervisors from UCAS faculties and CAS institutes and a first-class scientific research environment for students to fulfill scientific research

The University offers a number of general and subject-specific funding schemes. The aim of the scholarships is to attract the best and most motivated people to China. These scholarships are offered over different departments across the University, all offering a diverse range of courses
Eligibility

To be eligible to apply, applicants must:

  • Meet the admission criteria for UCAS international students
  • Get recommended by a supervisor and the institute/school which the supervisor is affiliated with
  • Have an appropriate attitude toward learning and scientific research and have outstanding academic performance
  • Have not accepted any other sponsorship at the time of application

Age requirements:

  • Master’s degree candidates should be no more than 30 years old
  • Doctoral degree candidates should be no more than 35 years old
  • Students on joint programs: no age limit
  • Regular and senior visiting students should be no more than 40 years old

Requirements on language level:

  • Programs taught in Chinese: Applicants should obtain at least 180 points for Level 5 of new HSK test before registration
  • Programs taught in English: Applicants should have adequate good English proficiency

Other requirements on applicants on joint programs:

  • Applicants should be currently studying at higher institutions abroad
  • The higher institution abroad the applicant is affiliated with should have signed relevant collaboration and exchange agreement with CAS/UCAS/CAS institute
  • Awarded student should register before the November of 2016
  • The academic visit to or joint culture at CAS should last for no shorter than 3 months

Other requirements on visiting scholars:

  • Scholars should register before the November of 2016
  • Scholars shall be further educated for no shorter than 6 months
  • Students who are currently studying at higher institutions in China cannot apply (with exception for this year’s graduates)
  • International Students are encouraged to apply

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirement: Applicants must have an appropriate attitude toward learning and scientific research and have outstanding academic performance.

The scholarship will comprise:
The full scholarship provides tuition waiver, monthly stipend, basic accommodation and medical insurance; while the partial scholarship covers some items of the Full.
Exempted from tuition fee:

  • Doctoral students would be exempted from a tuition fee of RMB 40,000/year
  • Master’s students would be exempted from a tuition fee of RMB 30,000/year
  • Senior visiting students would be exempted from a tuition fee of RMB 3,000/month
  • The regular visiting student would be exempted from a tuition fee of RMB 2,600/month

Stipend: UCAS provides:

  • Monthly stipend of RMB 2,500 for Doctoral students, senior visiting students and Doctoral students on joint programs, and
  • RMB 2,000 for Master’s students and regular visiting students. In addition, host supervisor and CAS institute/UCAS school/college (hereinafter referred to as institute/school) provide research assistantship for awardees considering their academic performances

The total amounts of monthly stipend will be no less than:

  • RMB 3500 for Doctoral students, senior visiting students and students on joint programs, and
  • RMB 3000 for Master’s students and regular visiting students

Accommodation: UCAS provides basic accommodation to awardees from institutes and schools located in Beijing. As for awardees from CAS institutes located outside Beijing, they would be provided with basic accommodation when attending the concentrated study at UCAS, while their host institutes would help to provide accommodation or solve accommodation-related problems after awardees return upon the completion of their concentrated study, and they shall pay for relevant expenses as requested by the institutes

Medical Insurance: The insurance premium is RMB 800/year, with RMB 400 for half-year term, and it would be deducted from the first stipend of each academic year

How to apply

  • Find an eligible host supervisor affiliated with CAS institute or UCAS school: Eligible applicants shall prepare application documents as requested, contact an eligible supervisor, decide on the research field and send him/her both hard and softcopies of application documents
  • Obtain a host supervisor’s acceptance: The supervisor scrutinizes and evaluates the applicant’s academic ability according to relevant rules of the institute/school. Several experts might be invited to conduct a video/telephone interview with the applicant or a written examination may be required. The supervisor decides whether or not to accept the applicant by making comments and signing on the supervisor’s comment pages of the admission application form as well as the scholarship application form, and submitting the hard copy of all necessary documents to the institute/school
  • CAS institute/UCAS school approves: The application will be reviewed by the institute/school for them to decide whether or not to accept the applicant. If the application is approved, the institute/school will complete and stamp the comment pages of the admission application form as well as the scholarship application form and then send the hard copy of all necessary documents to the UCAS International Students Office
  • UCAS makes the final review and prepares admission documents according to the evaluation result. UCAS will organize evaluation meetings after its final review of all application documents. The admission and visa application documents for chosen applicants are prepared once the expert panels make the final decision

Applications are invited for the 2016/2017 Oxford Graduate Scholarships in UK for International Students. Oxford University offers a range of different scholarship programmes for international students to help cover 100% of University and college fees and a grant for living costs

Scholarship description

As the oldest university in the English-speaking world, Oxford is a unique and historic institution. There is no clear date of foundation, but teaching existed at Oxford in some form in 1096 and developed rapidly from 1167, when Henry II banned English students from attending the University of Paris

English language is the medium of instruction at Oxford, so the candidates must have sufficient fluency in written and spoken English to be able to understand the courses easily

The Oxford Graduate Scholarships were established in 2012 through a groundbreaking fundraising initiative to support graduate students of the highest calibre from across the world. The University contributes 40% of the funds for these scholarships, together with 60% from generous donations provided by numerous supporters of the University and its colleges. Following types of scholarships are available:

  • Oxford-Ko Graduate Scholarships:Two full scholarships are available to applicants who are ordinarily resident in the EEA or Switzerland and who are applying for the full-time MSt in Chinese Studies. Preference will be given to graduates from the University of Leeds

  • Your application is not placed on a waiting list or held back after the January admissions deadline to be re-evaluated against applications received by the March admissions deadline; and
  • You meet the eligibility criteria

Value

These are fully funded scholarships. The scholarship will cover 100% of University and college fees and a grant for living costs

How to apply

All eligible applicants who have applied to the University by the relevant January deadline for their course will automatically be considered for the Oxford Graduate Scholarships, with the exception of the Oxford-Pershing Square Graduate Scholarships, which require an additional application to be made at the same time as your application to a course is made

Scholarships are awarded to applicants who have demonstrated excellent academic ability, who will contribute to the University’s groundbreaking research, and who will go on to contribute to the world as leaders in their field, pushing the frontiers of knowledge. Selection is based on academic merit, unless specified otherwise

Scholarship selection normally takes place between late February and June. If you have not heard from University by the dates indicated in the scholarship information, then please assume that you have been unsuccessful.
