  • Age: Applicants generally must have been born on April 2, 1995, and April 1, 2000
  • Academic Background: Applicants must either have completed 12 years of regular school education or have graduated from a school equivalent to an upper secondary school in Japan. Includes those wishing to enroll for direct placement in the fall term who are expected to graduate by the end of August 2017.) Applicants who satisfy the entrance requirements for a Japanese university are also eligible
  • Japanese Language: Applicants must be willing to learn Japanese. Applicants must be interested in Japan and be willing to deepen their understanding of Japan after arriving in Japan. In addition, in principle, applicants must be willing to carry out their academic studies in Japan in Japanese
  • Health: Applicants must be free from any mental or physical disabilities that would impede the pursuit of study at Japanese universities
  • Arrival in Japan: In principle, applicants must be able to arrive in Japan between the 1st and ?th of April 2017. If an applicant is to enroll in his/her university from the fall semester through direct placement, he or she must be able to leave for and arrive in Japan by the date specified by the accepting university
  • Visa Requirement: Applicants must acquire College Student (ryugaku) visas before entering Japan. They then enter Japan with the College Student (ryugaku) residence status. Please also note that those who change their visa status to one other than College Student after arrival in Japan will lose their qualification to be Japanese Government Scholarship recipients from the date when their visa status changes
  • Others: While the applicant is studying in Japan, he/she shall contribute to mutual understanding between Japan and the home country by participating in activities at schools and communities with the aim of contributing to the internationalization of Japan. The applicant shall make efforts to promote relations between the home country and Japan by maintaining close relations with the university attended after graduation, cooperating with the conducting of surveys and questionnaires after they return home, and cooperating with all relevant projects and events conducted by Japanese diplomatic missions in the applicant’s home country.

Value

Scholarship includes the following:

  • Allowance:
  • 117,000 yen per month. (In case that the recipient research in a designated region, 2,000 or 3,000 yen per month will be added
  • The monetary amount each year may be subject to change due to budgetary reasons.)
  • The scholarship is cancelled in principle if the recipient is absent from the university or preparatory Japanese-teaching institution for an extended period
  • The scholarship will also be cancelled in principle in the following situations:
  • If the recipient has been receiving the scholarship despite his/her falling under any of the following situations, the recipient will be ordered to return the amount of scholarship that he/she received during the period wherein he/she was involved with any of the following situations
  • The recipient is determined to have made a false statement on his/her application
  • The recipient violates any article of his/her pledge to the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology
  • The recipient violates any Japanese laws and is sentenced to imprisonment with or without work for life or for a period of exceeding 1 year. However, this shall not apply to those who were found guilty with suspension of execution of sentences
  • The recipient is subject to disciplinary action by the university, including expulsion (The scholarship payment may be stopped during the period up until punishment is decided by the university, etc.)
  • It has been determined that it will be impossible for the recipient to complete the training course within the standard time period because of poor academic grades or suspension from the university
  • The recipient’s residence status has changed to one other than College Student as defined in the Appended Table I-4 of the Immigration Act
  • The recipient has received a scholarship from another institution (excluding those specified for research expenditures)
  • The recipient has proceeded to a higher level of education without receiving approval for an extension of the period of the scholarship
  • Travelling Costs: Transportation to Japan:
  • The recipient will be provided, according to his/her itinerary and route as designated by MEXT, with an economy-class airplane ticket from the international airport nearest to his/her home country residence * to the New Tokyo International Airport or any other international airport that the appointed university usually uses
  • Expenses such as inland transportation from his/her home address to the international airport, airport tax, airport usage fees, special taxes on travel, or inland transportation within Japan will NOT be covered. (*The address in the country of the recipient’s nationality stated in the application form is in principle regarded as the recipient’s “home country residence.”)
  • Transportation from Japan: In principle, the recipient who returns to his/her home country within the fixed period after the expiration of his/her scholarship will be provided, upon application, with an economy-class airplane ticket for travel from the New Tokyo International Airport or any other international airport that the appointed university usually uses to the international airport nearest to his/her home address
  • Note 1: If a grantee returns home without the granting of an extension even though he/she may have applied for an extension of the scholarship period, he/she will not, in principle, be reimbursed for the travel expenses to return to the home country
  • Note 2: Any aviation and accident insurance to and from Japan shall be paid for by the recipient
  • Note 3: If a grantee continues to stay in Japan after the scholarship period has ended, he/she will not be paid travel expenses to return to the home country for a temporary return
  • Tuition and Other Fees:
  • Fees for the entrance examination, matriculation, and tuition at universities will be paid by the Japanese government

2016 NNI Research Fellowships for International Applicants in Nutrition

Applications are invited for the 2016 NNI Research Fellowships for International Applicants in Nutrition. This Nutrition Fellowships will enable young health professionals from developing countries to access postgraduate training through leading institutions

Fellowship description

The Nestlé Nutrition Institute shares leading science-based information and education with health professionals, scientists and nutrition communities and stakeholders, in an interactive way. The Institute provides modern educational and research environments that will enable students and researchers to face current challenges and to focus on knowledge as a principle driving force for development

Fellowship for awarded for such program which include, but is not limited to: learning a specific laboratory technique, statistics, nutrition, etc

Eligibility

The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for scholarship:

  • Fellowships are available for post graduate qualifications only
  • Fellow has to be affiliated with an academic/clinical institution
  • Potential candidates should submit an application describing their interest in participating in the NNI Research training Fellowship
  • Candidates from anywhere in the world (except USA) can apply for these nutrition fellowships
  • Applicants from outside the home country will often need to meet specific English language/other language requirements in order to be able to study there

Value

  • The NNI grant up to 40’000 CHF which can be used to pay course registration fees, round trip travel to the host institution, lodging and living expenses and health insurance coverage for the duration of the course
  • The amount of 40’000 CHF applies for the longer length projects (12 months)
  • A proportion of this amount will be paid to shorter duration projects
  • The NNI grant will be given to the Host Institution which will disburse it to the fellow
  • In no case will any money be given directly from the NNI to the fellow

Note: scholarship can be taken anywhere in the World (Priority consideration for this prestigious fellowship will be given to candidates in junior positions from emerging countries)

2017/2018 Hosei International Fund (HIF) Foreign Scholars Fellowship in Japan

Applications are invited for the 2017/2018 Hosei International Fund (HIF) Foreign Scholars Fellowship in Japan. Beneficiaries of the HIF International Fellowship will carry out non-degree research programs at Hosei University under the direction of and/or in cooperation with Hosei faculty and researchers. Invitations are extended to young scholars from abroad who are, at the least, enrolled in a doctoral degree program. It is expected that joint cooperation and coordination with Hosei faculty will contribute much to the development of the university’s research capabilities

Scholarship description

In 1980, Hosei University in anticipation of the 100th anniversary of its founding, established the Hosei International Fund (HIF) to advance international cooperation in academic research and scholarship. HOSEI University was selected by the Japanese government to receive support under the 2014 Top Global University Project. The following is an overview of their efforts to create a global university with the vision to achieve a sustainable society, as a world-leading country in terms of problem-solving. Research areas include those studies in the humanities, social or natural sciences, or engineering as deemed acceptable by Hosei

Eligibility

Applicant must:

  • Be foreign national (includes stateless person, foreign national currently residing in Japan)
  • Be presently enrolled in a doctoral degree program, hold a doctorate or its equivalent as recognized by the University
  • Have sufficient fluency in either Japanese or English
  • Be no more than 39 years of age as of April 1, 2017
  • Not have been a previous recipient of this fellowship

Value

  • Fellowship Grant: an HIF Fellow can receive ¥300,000 each month
  • Travel Grant and Other Perquisites: an HIF Fellow can receive all or part of economy class transportation expenses for travel to and from Japan. The travel subsidy for round-trip travel is ¥300,000 maximum (or up to ¥150,000 for one-way travel). To receive the inbound travel subsidy, the researcher must be living outside Japan; to receive the outbound subsidy a researcher must leave Japan within 30 days of completion of the research program; an HIF Fellow may receive assistance in his/her research from the research advisor, participate in lectures and seminars, and use other facilities of Hosei University and an HIF Fellow will be provided with shared office space, PC, and a Hosei University network ID
  • Housing:Hosei University will provide, upon request, a furnished apartment. However, the rent (approximately ¥100,000 per month) must be borne by the Fellow. (Note that rental expenses are subject to change)

The required components for complete application packet are as follows:-

  • Prescribed HIF Fellowship application form for the academic year 2017/2018
  • Two complete copies of applicant’s book, or thesis considered most significant in his/her academic career (Two copies of the same one. Article of the book/thesis is unacceptable)
  • An abstract for the submitted copy above in either Japanese or English (approximately 2 [ A4 or 210 mm x 297 mm ] pages)
  • One letter of recommendation from the head of the institution with which the applicant is affiliated
  • One letter of recommendation from the applicant’s supervisor or instructor attesting to the applicant’s research
  • Official final degree certificate, accompanied by an official translation into either Japanese or English if the certificate is in neither of these languages
  • Certificate attesting to institution presently enrolled in or affiliated with, accompanied by an official translation into either Japanese or English if the certificate is in neither of these languages
  • Certificate of applicant’s Japanese or English ability or a letter from the applicant’s supervisor or instructor attesting to the applicant’s Japanese or English ability if there is neither result nor score of examinations to certify the ability
