Candidates

  • Must meet all eligibility requirements at the time of contest closing either the 1st November 2016 (date to be confirmed separately for pre-selected students of the CSC)
  • Must have been preselected by a university, the Trans-Tech Network (for CCTT), the SRE or CONACYT on or before September 23, 2016
  • The stock market Québec-China must be pre-selected by the CSC at the latest March 31, 2017
  • Must not have already received a scholarship for foreign students Ministry of Education and Higher Education of Quebec (MEES), the Québec Research Fund – Nature and Technology or the Quebec Research Fund – society and Culture
  • Should not be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada
  • Must not have applied for permanent residence under the Canadian immigration laws
  • In addition to the conditions mentioned above, the candidate must take note of the restrictions and follow administrative prerequisites:

Restriction for study programs: Candidates for Québec-Wallonie scholarships must have previously studied in a French-speaking Belgian university at the time of receiving the award.

Criteria for the awardees doctoral research (V1, 1B, 1C, 1I, 1M, 1W) are:

  • Be holders of a certificate of acceptance (CAQ) issued by the Department of Immigration, Diversity and Inclusion and a study permit issued by the Canadian Consulate valid throughout the period studies in Quebec.

Holders of a postdoctoral fellowship (V2, 2B, 2C, 2I, 2M) and award of short-term research or professional development (V3, 3B, 3C, 3I, 3M, 3W) must:

  • Be holders of a work permit issued by the Canadian Consulate for the duration of stay in Quebec.

Value

  • Doctoral research scholarships (V1, 1B, 1C, 1I, 1M, 1W): $ 25,000 per year. The maximum duration of this scholarship is three years (nine sessions) with the possibility of extension up to 12 months (monthly allowance of $ 1,000)
  • Postdoctoral Fellowships (V2, 2B, 2C, 2I, 2M): $ 35,000 for one year, non-renewable
  • Scholarship Short-term research or professional development (V3, 3B, 3C, 3I, 3M, 3W): $ 3,000 per month for a period of four months

How to apply

Once shortlisted, the candidate is given a personal identification number (PIN) and a password. He must then fill out an electronic form which will be attached to the required documents on the website of the NRF . Only the e-form in the 2017/2018 competition and other documents required are accepted

Japanese Government Scholarship aim is to foster human resources who will become bridges of friendship between your country and Japan through study in Japan and who will contribute to the development of both countries and the wider world. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology ? MEXT ? offers scholarships to international students who wish to study at Japanese universities as undergraduate students under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program for 2017 as follows.

Those who wish to study in Japan as an undergraduate student must choose a field of study (major) from (1) or (2) below. Applicants may enter a first, second, and third choice:

  • Social Sciences and Humanities-A: Law, Politics, Pedagogy, Sociology, Literature, History, Japanese language, others

Eligibility

  • Nationality: Applicants must have the nationality of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan. An applicant who has Japanese nationality at the time of application is not eligible. However, persons with dual nationality who hold Japanese nationality and whose place of residence at the time of application is outside of Japan are eligible to apply as long as they choose the nationality of the foreign country and give up their Japanese nationality by the date of their arrival in Japan. Applicant screening will be conducted at the Japanese diplomatic mission in the country of applicant’s nationality
  • Age: Applicants generally must have been born on April 2, 1995, and April 1, 2000
  • Academic Background: Applicants must either have completed 12 years of regular school education or have graduated from a school equivalent to an upper secondary school in Japan. (Applicants who will meet the above qualifications by March 2017 are eligible. Includes those wishing to enroll for direct placement in the fall term who are expected to graduate by the end of August 2017.) Applicants who satisfy the entrance requirements for a Japanese university are also eligible
  • Japanese Language: Applicants must be willing to learn Japanese. Applicants must be interested in Japan and be willing to deepen their understanding of Japan after arriving in Japan. In addition, in principle, applicants must be willing to carry out their academic studies in Japan in Japanese
  • Health: Applicants must be free from any mental or physical disabilities that would impede the pursuit of study at Japanese universities
  • Arrival in Japan: In principle, applicants must be able to arrive in Japan between the 1st and ?th of April 2017. If an applicant is to enroll in his/her university from the fall semester through direct placement, he or she must be able to leave for and arrive in Japan by the date specified by the accepting university
  • Visa Requirement: Applicants must acquire College Student (ryugaku) visas before entering Japan. They then enter Japan with the College Student (ryugaku) residence status. Please also note that those who change their visa status to one other than College Student after arrival in Japan will lose their qualification to be Japanese Government Scholarship recipients from the date when their visa status changes
  • Others: While the applicant is studying in Japan, he/she shall contribute to mutual understanding between Japan and the home country by participating in activities at schools and communities with the aim of contributing to the internationalization of Japan. The applicant shall make efforts to promote relations between the home country and Japan by maintaining close relations with the university attended after graduation, cooperating with the conducting of surveys and questionnaires after they return home, and cooperating with all relevant projects and events conducted by Japanese diplomatic missions in the applicant’s home country.

Scholarship includes the following:

  • Allowance:
  • 117,000 yen per month. (In case that the recipient research in a designated region, 2,000 or 3,000 yen per month will be added
  • The monetary amount each year may be subject to change due to budgetary reasons.)
  • The scholarship is cancelled in principle if the recipient is absent from the university or preparatory Japanese-teaching institution for an extended period
  • The scholarship will also be cancelled in principle in the following situations:
  • If the recipient has been receiving the scholarship despite his/her falling under any of the following situations, the recipient will be ordered to return the amount of scholarship that he/she received during the period wherein he/she was involved with any of the following situations
  • The recipient is determined to have made a false statement on his/her application
  • The recipient violates any article of his/her pledge to the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology
  • The recipient violates any Japanese laws and is sentenced to imprisonment with or without work for life or for a period of exceeding 1 year. However, this shall not apply to those who were found guilty with suspension of execution of sentences
  • The recipient is subject to disciplinary action by the university, including expulsion (The scholarship payment may be stopped during the period up until punishment is decided by the university, etc.)
  • It has been determined that it will be impossible for the recipient to complete the training course within the standard time period because of poor academic grades or suspension from the university
  • The recipient’s residence status has changed to one other than College Student as defined in the Appended Table I-4 of the Immigration Act
  • The recipient has received a scholarship from another institution (excluding those specified for research expenditures)
  • The recipient has proceeded to a higher level of education without receiving approval for an extension of the period of the scholarship
  • Travelling Costs: Transportation to Japan:
  • The recipient will be provided, according to his/her itinerary and route as designated by MEXT, with an economy-class airplane ticket from the international airport nearest to his/her home country residence * to the New Tokyo International Airport or any other international airport that the appointed university usually uses
  • Expenses such as inland transportation from his/her home address to the international airport, airport tax, airport usage fees, special taxes on travel, or inland transportation within Japan will NOT be covered. (*The address in the country of the recipient’s nationality stated in the application form is in principle regarded as the recipient’s “home country residence.”)
  • Transportation from Japan: In principle, the recipient who returns to his/her home country within the fixed period after the expiration of his/her scholarship will be provided, upon application, with an economy-class airplane ticket for travel from the New Tokyo International Airport or any other international airport that the appointed university usually uses to the international airport nearest to his/her home address
  • Note 1: If a grantee returns home without the granting of an extension even though he/she may have applied for an extension of the scholarship period, he/she will not, in principle, be reimbursed for the travel expenses to return to the home country
  • Note 2: Any aviation and accident insurance to and from Japan shall be paid for by the recipient
  • Note 3: If a grantee continues to stay in Japan after the scholarship period has ended, he/she will not be paid travel expenses to return to the home country for a temporary return
  • Tuition and Other Fees:
  • Fees for the entrance examination, matriculation, and tuition at universities will be paid by the Japanese government

The Leibniz-DAAD Research Fellowship programme is jointly carried out by the Leibniz Association (Wissenschaftsgemeinschaft Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz e.V.) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Leibniz-DAAD fellowships offer highly-qualified, international postdoctoral researchers, who have recently completed their doctoral studies, the opportunity to conduct research at a Leibniz Institute of their choice in Germany

The Leibniz Association connects 88 independent research institutions that range in focus from the natural, engineering and environmental sciences via economics, spatial and social sciences to the humanities. Leibniz institutes address issues of social, economic and ecological relevance

The DAAD is the largest funding organisation in the world supporting the international exchange of students and scholars. Since it was founded in 1925, more than 1.5 million scholars in Germany and abroad have received DAAD funding

Eligibility

  • Have completed their studies with a PhD or equivalent qualification (no more than two years should have passed since graduation) and
  • Have excellent knowledge of English
  • Fellowship is open for international applicants.

English Language Requirement: Applicants require copy of English language skills certification (e.g. TOEFL 550/213/80, IELTS: 6.0) not more than five years old

Value

Fellowships can be awarded for 12 months and include:

  • A monthly installment of €2,000
  • A combined health, accident and personal liability insurance in Germany
  • A research allowance of €460 per annum and
  • A two-months German language course in Germany (if desired)

Call for UN University (Netherlands) PhD Programme in Economics and Governance

The UN University in Netherlands (UNU-MERIT) and its School of Governance invite applications for PhD Programme on Innovation, Economics and Governance for Development (IEGD)

Programme description

PhD programme is a multidisciplinary course offered by UNU-MERIT and its School of Governance. The programme focuses on research skills and methods, training fellows to become both scholars and practitioners in the fields of governance and the economics of technology. During their first year, fellows complete a basic, compulsory training programme conducted by leading scholars of the host and partner universities. These courses are taught in Maastricht and spread across two semesters. Taught entirely in English, this is an annual Maastricht-based programme which starts on 1 September. At the end of the programme, the doctoral degree is awarded by Maastricht University upon successful defence of the thesis. Each year, the university will distribute a limited number of scholarships among the accepted fellows

Eligibility

An applicant must have the following:

  • A Master’s degree from a relevant academic field, including: economics, international relations, political science, law, social sciences, business administration, health sciences or public health
  • Basic knowledge of mathematics and statistics, which is measured by reviewing the content and level of previous studies and/or working experience
  • Basic knowledge of economics, social sciences, political science and/or law, which is measured by reviewing the content and level of previous studies and/or working experience
  • Proficiency in English, with a minimum level of 600 PBT / 240 CBT / 100 IBT for the TOEFL or 7.0 for the IELTS (native speakers of English and students who received their Bachelor’s or Master’s education in English are exempt). Maastricht University’s TOEFL code is 7102

Payments involved

The following tuition fees are applicable to those enrolled in the PhD programme for the 2015/2016 academic year: First year: €7000 and Subsequent years: €2500. 2016/2017 Quebec MELS Merit Scholarship in Canada for Foreign Students

The Scholarship Program is available for foreign nationals to undertake Doctoral Research, Postdoctoral and Short Term Research program in Québec. Candidates cannot apply directly to the agency they must be nominated by a University. Doctoral Research Scholarship is valued at $25,000 per year, postdoctoral fellowship is valued at $35,000 per year and short-term research or professional development is valued at $3,000 a month. Only candidates nominated by a University may submit an application to the provincial competition.

Scholarship description

These scholarships are intended for foreign students or researchers from all research sectors (Health, Humanities and Social Sciences, Arts and Letters, Natural Sciences, and Engineering) preselected by a Québec university, the Réseau Trans-Tech, the China Scholarship Council (CSC), TERI University, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico (SRE) or the National Science and Technology Council of Mexico (CONACYT) to begin or continue studies or research activities in Québec. There is no privileged research sector. The Merit Scholarship Programs for Foreign Students has three components:

  • Doctoral research scholarships (V1, 1B, 1C, 1I, 1M, 1W)
  • Postdoctoral scholarships (V2, 2B, 2C, 2I, 2M)
  • Short-term research or professional development scholarships (V3, 3B, 3C, 3I, 3M, 3W)

Eligibility

Applicants for this scholarships must meet the following criteria:

  • Must meet all eligibility conditions at the closing date of the competition, namely, November 1st, 2015 (a different closing date has to be confirmed for the students preselected by CSC)
  • Must have been preselected by a university, the Réseau Trans-Tech (a CCTT), TERI University, the SER or CONACYT before September 23rd, 2015
  • Candidates for the Québec-China program must be preselected by the CSC before 31 March, 2016
  • Cannot have already received a Merit Scholarship for Foreign Students from MEESR, FRQNT or Québec Research Fund – Society and Culture (FRQSC)
  • Cannot be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada
  • Cannot have applied for permanent resident status under Canadian immigration law
  • Restriction for programs of study: Double doctoral degree programs are not admissible and Québec-Wallonia scholarship applicants must have studied in a French-language university institution in Belgium at the time they are granted their scholarship
  • Doctoral research (V1, 1B, 1C, 1I, 1M, 1W) scholarship recipients must have a Certificat d’acceptation du Québec (CAQ) issued by the ministère de l’Immigration, de la Diversité et de l’Inclusion du Québec and a student permit issued by the Canadian Consulate valid for the entire duration of their scholarship
  • Postdoctoral scholarship (V2, 2B, 2C, 2I, 2M) or short-term research or professional development  scholarship (V3, 3B, 3C, 3I, 3M, 3W) recipients must have a working permit issued by the Canadian Consulate for the entire duration of their scholarship

Value

  • Doctoral Research Scholarship is valued at $25,000 per year
  • Postdoctoral Fellowship is valued at $35,000 per year for one year non renewable
  • Short-term research or professional development scholarship is valued at $3,000 a month for a period of up to four months

How to apply

Preselected candidates are assigned a Personal Identification Number (PIN) and a password. They must then complete an e-form to which will be attached the required documents. The E-forms are available only in the secure zone of the FRQNT. They must be completed and sent electronically. The duration of the doctoral research scholarship is three years, with a possible extension of up to 12 months. Postdoctoral fellowships are available for one year non-renewable and Short-term research or professional development scholarships are available for a period of up to four months.

The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of following:

  • Excellence of University Record
  • Aptitude for research and relevant research experience
  • Scientific quality and interest of the proposed research project and quality of the research environment

Results are announced by e-mail at the end of March. Candidates can access the letter of announcement in their application e-file. Each candidate is then informed of his/her ranking and can print the letter of announcement.

Pre-selection of Candidates: Only candidates preselected by a Québec university, the Réseau Trans-Tech, TERI University, the SRE or the CONACYT as of September 23rd, 2015, can be part of this competition. Candidates to the Québec-China scholarship must be preselected by the CSC as of March 31st, 2016

Application deadline

The deadline for sending scholarship applications is 1 November, 2015, at midnight (coordinated universal time UTC-5 Est time zone) (a different closing date has to be confirmed for the students preselected by the CSC). Files cannot be updated after the closing date for applications. It is suggested to keep a printed copy of your form for your records
